Eligibility Requirements

Each applicant:

1.) Must be a Missouri resident.

2.) Must be currently attending a Missouri college, university or accredited tech/trade school or be a graduating high school senior who has been admitted to a Missouri institution of higher learning.

3.) Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a broadcast or related curriculum, which provides training and expertise applicable to a broadcast operation.

4.) Must be a full-time student for every semester the scholarship is awarded. Full-time status requires enrollment in at least 12 credit hours.

5.) Must have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent, which must be maintained for each semester of the scholarship

Application Requirements

Please include:

1.) A completed application signed by the school's department head or guidance counselor certifying that you meet the eligibility requirements.

2.) Three letters of recommendation.

3.) Ten copies of the application and attachments.

Applicants must submit their completed application form and all attachments to a single participating MBA member station in their home area. Only one application will be accepted per student per year. For a complete list of the stations, go to: www.mbaweb.org and click on "Scholarship".

Important dates

The annual deadline for application is March 31st. Recipients will receive notification of their award no later than June 30th.

Selection process

Each participating radio or television station will select the top application from those received and submit their candidate to the MBA Scholarship Committee for consideration. The committee will review the qualifications of the candidates from throughout the state in order to narrow the field of scholarship candidates.

The selection committee will use the following information during its evaluation process:

1.) The applicant's curriculum and career goals.

2.) Clarity of thought and expression.

3.) Letters of recommendation.

4.) Community involvement and extracurricular activities.

5.) Financial need. (While not a primary consideration, applicants should provide information as to how their education is funded.)

All applicants who will be considered for the final selection by the Scholarship Committee will be asked to travel, at their own expense, to Jefferson City for in-person interviews.

Financial Information

Multiple awards may be assigned each year and the amount of the scholarship will vary. This is a renewable scholarship, provided qualification standards are maintained. Recipients wishing to renew their scholarship must reapply each academic year through their area member station.

Payment of the scholarship will be in two equal installments, one each for the fall and spring semester, payable to the Office of the Registrar of the school which the recipient will be attending.

The MBA Scholarship Fund was established as a part of this commitment to excellence. Deserving students may receive financial aid to assist them in attaining the training and expertise required to become valuable employees in Missouri's broadcasting industry.

As a steward of broadcast standards and practices, the Missouri Broadcasters Association (MBA) knows the importance of training to be competent and confident when entering the work force. Experience has become an essential element for the successful job seeker as employers are increasingly requiring applicants to have demonstrated ability. The Missouri Broadcasters Association Foundation has developed a program designed to assist students in attaining on-the-job training as a part of their higher education.

The MBA Internship Program was established as a part of a commitment to excellence, so that deserving students may attain the training and expertise required to become valuable employees in Missouri's broadcasting industry. Criteria

  1. Internship opportunity limited to Missouri Broadcasters Association member stations.
  2. Applicant must be a Junior or Senior, currently attending a Missouri college or university.
  3. Applicant must be enrolled in broadcast or a related curriculum that provides training and expertise applicable to a broadcast
    operation.
  4. Applicant must receive college credit for internship. The ratio of work hours to credit hours received shall be at least 40 to 1.
  5. Applicant must obtain approval from the supervising faculty member and the MBA member station prior to application.
  6. Applicant must be supervised by a faculty member.

Selection Process & Award

The Internship Committee of the MBA will review all applications of the committee's decision. Recipients will receive notification of their acceptance no later than August 1st for fall internships. December 15th for spring internships and May 1st for all summer internships.

Upon completion of the internship, recipients will provide the Internship Committee with a written report detailing their work experience and what skills they have learned. Upon receipt of the written report, interns within the program will receive $250 for each credit hour earned up to a maximum: $1,000. No payments will be made by the MBA prior to the receipt of the written report.

Application Process

The applicant must provide a packet, which contains the following:

  1. The completed MBA internship application.
  2. A letter detailing how the experience will apply to the student's career plan.
  3. A letter from the participating station accepting the student as an intern.
  4. A resume.

Application and supporting documents must be received by the MBA no later than June 1st for fall internships, October 15th for spring internships and March 1st for summer internships.
